🌊 Welcome to Seaside Chevra

Nestled along Oregon’s stunning Pacific coastline, Seaside Chevra is proud to be the state’s newest Jewish center—rooted in tradition, infused with warmth, and open to all. This traditional Orthodox congregation embraces Jews of every background and level of observance, welcoming both year-round residents and seasonal visitors with heartfelt hospitality.

The name Chevra—a Hebrew/Yiddish word meaning “group of friends”—reflects our spirit of caring connection and inclusive community.

🕍 A Legacy of Jewish Presence

Seaside has long been a beloved summer retreat for Jewish families from Portland and Seattle, with memories of a traditional minyan dating back to the 1960s and ’70s. Stories of those early gatherings in in a private home still echo today, and more of Seaside’s Jewish history can be explored at the Portland Jewish Museum.

🔥 Our Founding Spark

The vision for Seaside Chevra emerged in Summer 2023, when community members came together for a kosher backyard barbecue and beach kumsitz. That spirit of unity was followed by traditional Rosh Hashana services held in a rental home overlooking the ocean. The Chevra now offers year-around celebrations, services, and learning opportunities for Jews of all observance levels and backgrounds, for both local residents and visitors.

Seaside Chevra is dedicated to enriching Jewish life on Oregon’s North Coast. Through prayer, learning, and joyful connection, we aim to build a vibrant "chevra" that uplifts and inspires.

The Chevra is grateful for the spiritual guidance and encouragement received from rabbinic leaders in the Portland Kollel, the broader Portland community, and Israel. Their presence helps cultivate a warm, welcoming, and caring environment—one rooted in connection, tradition, and heartfelt support.
